Obituary
Randall H. Lillard
July 20,1951- August 26,2024
Randy Lillard, 73 born in Quincy, IL, died peacefully at home holding hands with his wife of 50 years, by his side. They were high school “sweethearts” at Lee’s Summit High School, class of ‘69 and one of the three couples that married others from that class.
After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Missouri at Rolla (UMR) to obtain his degree in civil engineering which he used while working for Black & Veatch Corp.
He married Jennifer Guffey, after dating 7 years. They had three sons and six grandchildren. J.R. and Michal his wife, and sons Jack, Harry, and Tommy from Andover, KS, Brett and Sharla (his fiancé) and sons, Cameron, Lewis, and Ben from Lee’s Summit, MO and Devin from Augusta, WV.
Their life was just like they planned, he worked at Black & Veatch and she worked raising their sons and teaching fitness and aerobic classes in the Lee’s Summit area. He was able to travel all over the world with his job and enjoyed everything but not being able to be home with his family as much.
He liked playing golf, when he could find the time, grilling – out for family and friends, and mowing his yard with the lines he liked to see!
He always liked to watch sports, especially the Royals and the Chiefs. Jennifer was a K.C. Chiefette after they got married and performed at every home Chiefs game at the stadium. Randy decided that he could do this also if he was an “usher” in the stadium and showing people to their seats! But little did he know that his position was “protecting the spiral ramps” outside the stadium and he never saw the game! That was his first and last job of ushering at the game! Watching games on TV was much easier on the recliner with snacks!
Family life was important to Randy and getting to the boys’ games was sometimes almost impossible since they played at the same time and at different fields.
He lived his last couple of years at Wilshire Rehab Center at Lakewood. He always loved his sister Kristy Russell from Quincy, IL when she came to visit. Kristy has three children, Terry, Nathan, and Karisa. He also has a brother Rick and wife Mikki from West Virginia, and they have two children Boyd and Brooke.
Randy was predeceased by his parents James Richard and Gloria Maybelle Lillard from Ewing, MO. Also, a sister Sharon Rose Lillard from Ewing, MO.
His favorite dog Pip is an eight-year-old poodle was always by his side and also rode on his lap in the wheelchair. Pip loved to visit his “Dad” at Wilshire but always would stop to visit with anyone that needed his attention.
Randy always remembered the times he needed help of any kind and tried to give back when and what he could! He would like for you to think of others who might need a little help; whether it be monetary or just your time and friendship. Giving to others not only brings joy and happiness to them but to you also.
Visitation will be held at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, MO on September the 4th at 1:00-2:30 pm. A graveside service officiated by Pastor Ray Gurney will immediately follow at Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brett Lillard, Devin Lillard, Cameron Lillard, Lewis Lillard, Ben Lillard, and Cameron Webb. Honorary pallbearers are J. R. Lillard, Jack Lillard, Harry Lillard, and Tommy Lillard.

It was always uplifting to run into Randy during our years at Rolla, especially being a fellow LSHS’69 classmate. He brought a droll sense of humor and wit to any exchange, a welcome break from the intense UMR climate (study or otherwise). When together, Randy and Jennifer brought the energy and fun. Our paths diverged but Randy left a presence that made him feel closer. I will keep you, Jennifer, and your family in my prayers. -Jim Jones, LSHS’69, UMR’74
Randy was my next door neighbor growing up. He always had a smile for you. God bless your family, Randy.
Jennifer, Gayle and I pass along our condolences. Sorry for your loss. We were decorating for Christmas and putting out all the Christmas trees you had given us through the years and thought of you and Randy. Great memories. I know he is missed. We wish you well. John & Gayle O’Connell
