Obituary

Richard Aloysius Batliner, known as “Dick,” passed away peacefully on March 19th, 2025, in his hometown of Lee’s Summit, MO. Visitation will be Monday, March 24th from 5:00-7:00 pm with rosary beginning at 4:45. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, March 25th at 10:00 am. Both services will be at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, 130 NW Murray Road, Lee’s Summit MO. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.

Dick was born on March 16, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri. He proudly served as a medic in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal for his service. Dick attended the University of Missouri’s pre-engineering program before enlisting in the Army. Upon return from his service, he attended Rockhurst University to study business.

In 1952, Dick married the love of his life, Helen Pauline Utter. Together, they shared a life filled with love, adventure, and family. They enjoyed traveling to Colorado, Minnesota and Hawaii, spending time at the lake, and celebrating the Fourth of July.

Dick worked for over 30 years at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant before retiring to help Pauline manage Mr. D’s Dress Shop. This dress shop was a staple in the Lee’s Summit community for nearly 20 years.

Family was at the heart of everything he did. Dick and Pauline were blessed with four sons and four daughter-in-laws. Their family continued to grow with the addition of 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.

He was always the life of the party, whether tailgating at a Chiefs game, enjoying a NASCAR race, an excursion to Branson or simply sharing a drink or a cigar with family and friends. His incredible storytelling ability brought laughter and warmth to every gathering. Those stories will forever live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

Dick’s faith and unwavering dedication to Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, where he was a devoted member since 1964, touched countless lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, and his beloved wife of 45 years, Pauline. He is survived by his four sons and their wives: Richard P. (Debbie), Robert J. (Shery), Brian D. (Carolyn), and Brent J. (Christa); his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends, including his life-long friend Pattie Witthar. Memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church. Arrangements (Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, MO).

Sending my sincerest sympathy to the whole Batliner family. Having had the opportunity to meet Mt Batliner and witness the love of his family was a true pleasure. He has left a wonderful legacy through his lovely children and their families.

Uncle Dick was one of my favorites. I remember NO ONE could guess his middle name or how to spell it when he told it to us. He was funny and showered his family with Love and happiness. I’m a better person to have known him, he will be greatly missed. I Love you Uncle Dick.

Uncle Dick was like a second Father to me, especially after I lost my precious Dad 37 years ago. He always had a smile and hug when we got together. His heart must have been huge because it held so much love for his whole family and each friend. I was blessed having him in my life. He was a fun, strong, kind blessing we all got to enjoy. I hope there are Russell Stovers chocolates in heaven for him.

May God wrap his loving arms around all of you. My prayers are with you all. I know heaven is having a party with a new angel. Much love coming to you all. ❤️

I am so sorry to hear of Dick’s death. He and Pauline were such wonderful people and good friends with my parents. He was the last member of the “Glennon” gang and I can only imagine the party that is going on in heaven. I know you will miss him so much but he is now reunited with Pauline and heaven is a happier place.

My thoughts are with you all as you mourn the loss of your Dad/father in law/grandparent . He had great kids which is a testament to him as a man and father. What long life to celebrate.

Rob…I am so sorry that you lost your dad. Please accept my sympathy and know that prayers are being lifted for you and your family. The Angels will lead him into paradise and God will wipe away every tear from your eyes.
