Obituary

Richard Lee Baker (Dick), 83, went home to be with the Lord on May 2nd when Jesus came and took his hand from Judy, his wife of 49 years. Richard was born on September 2, 1938.

Preceded in death by his parents, Marie & Edward Baker, sister Patricia Kahler, son Russell Baker and daughter Debby Wilgus. Survived by his wife Judith Baker, sons Richard Baker (Sandra), Roger Baker, Gary Baker (Kimberly), daughter Vicky Cundiff (Jon) & many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Growing up in Omaha, NE, Dick enjoyed the outdoors, sports and working on anything he could get his hands on. He taught his boys to hunt and fish leading to many “guys trips” and lots of great memories. He coached his daughter’s softball teams to many victories. He could make or fix just about anything from butterfly band aids on head wounds to cars, wood working, and small engines. This served him well later in life, especially when designing and building their retirement home. Post retirement in the Warsaw area was a dream come true where he spent the next 20 years with Judy, the love of his life, enjoying the outdoors, fishing, gardening, and spending time giving back to his church and community.

Dick’s Christian faith was also a driving factor throughout his life. He was a great role model and created a safe and loving environment for his family to thrive because he lived Jesus’s commands to “Love God and love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39). He was also active in all the churches he attended – St. Paul Lutheran Church (Omaha, NE) and then Faith Lutheran Church (Warsaw, MO). He answered the call to be on the Board of Elders at both churches.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that you donate to a charity, organization, or to God’s Work that has personal significance to you and your family. Our family has witnessed the battle that Richard fought with Parkinson’s, Lewy Body Dementia, and chronic kidney disease, and saw first-hand, the grace of God that kept Richard grounded and able to praise the Lord to his last breath.

Our family is having an intimate service at Faith Lutheran Church in Warsaw, MO on May 14, 2022, to celebrate Richard’s heavenly homecoming to end all his suffering!!
