Obituary

Rita Buffa Dubin

January 3, 1948 – February 8, 2025

Rita Ann Dubin, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, on January 3, 1948, Rita lived a life filled with love, generosity, and resilience. She touched the lives of many with her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering spirit.

Rita was an exceptional mother to her son, Jacob Dubin, and a devoted Nana to her grandson, James. She was also a surrogate mother and grandmother to many, always opening her heart and home to those in need.

Throughout her career, Rita enjoyed a variety of roles, but she was especially proud of her time as the manager of the credit union at Menorah Hospital, where she built meaningful relationships and helped others with their financial goals. Later, she found great fulfillment as a realtor, guiding people through the process of finding their homes, a career she truly loved. Her entrepreneurial spirit also led her to start Divine Sweets Bakery with her son, blending her passion for baking with her love of bringing people together.

Rita will be fondly remembered for her incredible baking, which became a beloved part of family gatherings and celebrations. She had a special way of making people feel welcome, whether through sharing a home-cooked meal, hosting loved ones, or simply offering her kind and thoughtful presence.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Manuel Buffa; her sister, Katherine; and her brother, Benjamin. She is survived by her son, Jacob Dubin; her daughter-in-law, Misty Dubin; her grandson, James Dubin; and many dear friends and extended family who will miss her deeply.

A visitation will be held at 1:30 PM, followed by a service at 2:30 PM on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, MO.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita’s memory to Westie Rescue of Missouri, a cause close to her heart.

Rita’s kindness, love, and strength will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Rita and I were friends since we met in Sunday school at the age of 8. She was such an intelligent, funny and kind person. She has been my friend for almost 70 years and I can’t believe I will not speak to her again. Rita always had wise counsel, was such a good listener and was so clever. I know she was an important support to so many people. She adored her son, Jacob ,and her grandson, James. This picture showed the joy and love that emanated from her whenever she spoke of them. Sending love and prayers to her whole family, and all her friends that will miss her presence with us in this world.

Deepest condolences to Rita’s son and all of her many family and friends. She was our dear neighbor and we will miss her. She was a little sassy and alot sweet. She was so proud of her son and his family and
she loved her dogs, Rusty and Parker. We will miss seeing her; our neighborhood won’t be the same. May the Lord comfort all that loved her. 🙏🕊🙏

Please know that you are all in my prayers. It’s hard, please know that the fond memories everyone has for Rita will continue and she will continue to live in our hearts.

My favorite memory with Rita was when she would visit CO and she would bake her infamous cinnamon rolls. We would spend time in the kitchen laughing and swapping stories. Rita was a beloved friend to my mom Carol. I will always be thankful for the friendship my mom and her had. She will be missed greatly!
