Obituary

Robert Raymond Johnson was born on November the 11th 1946 to Raymond Bechele and Rhoda Katherine Bowen Johnson in Kansas City, Missouri.

On December 8th, 2023, at 3:32pm while surrounded by the family he loved so much, Jesus came to walk Robert from this life to his eternal home.

Robert grew up in and around the Kansas City area and after getting married and starting a family of his own, eventually settled in Lee’s Summit, Missouri and lived the remainder of his life there.

Robert wore many hats. To friends and colleagues, he was Bob. He was also dad, Pops, Uncle Bob.  If you knew him, you were lucky because he had an impact on everyone he ever met.  He never met a stranger and was always striking up a conversation with anyone.

He was a truly intellectual conversationalist and deeply cared about whatever or whomever he was speaking of.  He could tell some of the best stories and weather from his time selling insurance or leading the security at Arrowhead Stadium, driving a limo, visits to the family farm or anything in between, he sure did have some stories to tell. Most of the time these left you laughing so hard you had tears before it was over. Oh, he loved to laugh, and his laugh was contagious.

He loved the Boy Scouts and was an adult leader to troop 323 for many years. Robert and his son Carl, an Eagle Scout, were also members of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.   One of the things he looked forward to each year during his time with the Scouts was the annual camping trip they took to the family farm, still known to this day as The Johnson farm in Holden.  He deeply loved children, all animals, his family and of course the Chiefs.  He was very proud of his children. Even the ones he adopted along the way. Being Pops to his grand kids and great grands filled him with so much joy.  On his recent visit to Texas he spent some time with his great granddaughter June and when he returned home it’s said that was all he could talk about.  He loved Chocolate milk and donuts. When his granddaughter was a little girl they started a tradition of going to get donuts and chocolate milk every Sunday morning before church. That granddaughter is now 35 but on his visit to Texas they had their chocolate milk and donuts.

Robert is proceeded in death by his parents Rhoda and Raymond his sister Kitty Jo and a nephew Billy.

He is survived by his son Carl and wife Angie of Fort Worth, TX his daughters Kathe of Lee’s Summit MO, adopted daughter Kelly of Warrensburg MO ,grandson Andy and wife Grace of Aledo TX granddaughter Ruby and husband Chris of Memphis TN, granddaughter Holly and partner Kyle of Independence Mo, great grandchildren Sylvia, Elliot and Archer of Bangor, ME and Juniper of Aledo TX.  Kara and Elliot of Independence Mo. Nephews Chris and wife Cat, Lee and Wife Geniese and Bobby His very special friend Brenda who has been by his side many years. Many great nieces and nephews and tons of friends that will miss him beyond words.
