Obituary

Rosanne M. (Sonnenmoser) Powell passed away Feb. 11th of lung cancer at the age of 63. The daughter of Joseph and Rosemary Sonnenmoser, she grew up in Weston, MO. She earned a Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She worked as a librarian at Rockhurst University, MCC Penn Valley and Blue River, and at Unity Village before becoming an archivist. She loved books and music, playing piano at her church, and singing in the Grace UMC choir. She also loved her family above all else and was always grateful to spend time traveling with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Michael.

She is survived by brothers Steve (Linda), Mark (Janell), and David, sisters Catherine (John) Overton, Susan (Reza) Hamamlow, and Mary (Michael) McQuillen. She was married to Scot Powell on Sept. 17, 1994. She had six children Heather and Nathaniel (Cree) Daise, Rhianna (Zach) Rice, Kristen, Rhys, and Ian Powell. Grandchildren Damien, Promise, Lola, Nathaniel, and Jaxson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life yet to be determined. Donations to the Mid-Continent Library are suggested by the family.

We were so very sad to hear the news of Rosanne’s passing. She will be greatly missed by all—she was truly such a sweet, kind, and caring woman.
She was such a wonderful member of our dance association and she won’t be forgotten! We are so grateful for all the ways she served our little community.

This incredible women was more than just a good neighbor she was family. You were never not involved when being at the Powell’s house. She took in me and my three siblings, Laron, Maryah, and Christina, as if we were her own. Mrs Powell holds a special place In all of our hearts. With much love.

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Roxanne on a float trip, and she became my roommate on that trip and a few others. Awesome lady! She will be missed.

So sad to hear about Rosanne’s passing. Fond memories over the years from folk dancing ourselves to watching our daughter’s highland dance. She will be missed. Our prayers are with your family.
