Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sammy Joe Burton on October 2, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on July 2, 1949, Sam lived a life full of service, innovation, and love, leaving behind a lasting legacy.
A proud veteran, Sam served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that fueled his commitment to his country. Following his service, he graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in electrical engineering, emerging as a pioneer in the early days of Silicon Valley. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found Perpetual Water with his brother, Dick, where they worked together to create sustainable solutions that reflected their innovative mindset.
Sam was also a passionate aviator, a second-generation pilot who found joy in flying both power planes and sailplanes. He cherished his time soaring the skies at Reid-Hillview Airport, Hollister Airport, and Tehachapi Gliderport.
Later in life, Sam and Carolyn moved back to Missouri, spending the last eight years of his life at the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks in Sunrise Beach, where he enjoyed the tranquility and natural beauty of the area.
Sam is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Carolyn; two sons, Daniel and Scott and his wife, Jamie; and his beloved grandchildren, Brianna, Ian, Caleb, and Benjamin. He is also remembered by his brother, Dick Burton, and sister, Kathy Milam.
A celebration of Sam’s life will take place at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, on Thursday, October 10th, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mercy Chefs, feeding victims of Hurricane Helene and other natural disasters, honoring Sam’s generous spirit.
Sam will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his love, wisdom, and adventurous spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
