Obituary
Sandra Logan, age 84, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, died peacefully on October 17, at Homestead of Leawood, where she had resided for the past few months.
She was born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 28, 1940. She lived her entire life in the Kansas City area.
Sandra is survived by her two daughters, Kerri (Randy) Gasser of Grain Valley, Missouri and Dr. Kristi Logan (Dr. Mathew Smidt) of Auburn, Alabama, and five grandchildren: grandson Dr. Joseph (Abbey) Gasser of Salisbury, Maryland; granddaughter Hailey (Sam) McIntosh of Cuba, Missouri, granddaughter Kaylyn (Traven) Gasser of Mission, Kansas; granddaughter Cecilia Smidt of Nashville, Tennessee; grandson Henry Smidt of Auburn, Alabama; and sister Marci Pinto of Overland Park, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Keith, her parents Howard and Agnes Harris, and infant brother, Howard Harris Jr.
Sandra and Keith met while attending Central high school but didn’t start dating until after Keith had graduated. Sandra attended Central Missouri State in Warrensburg and was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha. On February 3, 1962, Keith and Sandra married. Sandra studied to be a school teacher and her first job was teaching 6th grade when she was only about 10 years older than her students. After the birth of her oldest daughter, Sandra worked as the joint coordinator of the CCD program at St. Mark’s Church in Independence, Missouri. Since she wanted to return to full-time teaching, Sandra took classes at Avila college and completed her bachelor’s degree. She began teaching 2nd grade (her personal favorite) at Holy Family Catholic school. After several years, she decided she needed a change and began teaching for the Kansas City school district until she retired. Sandra’s passion for teaching didn’t end there. She worked as a substitute teacher in the Lee’s Summit school district for many years. Sandra was beloved by her former students. She would be stopped in various places around town (e.g., grocery store, church) and young people would ask, “Are you Mrs. Logan my 2nd grade teacher?” She loved reconnecting and hearing about their lives.
For many years, summers were spent at the Lake of the Ozarks, where Sandra spent time with her husband, children, parents, and sister. Sandra loved the beach and traveled to the Gulf Coast of Alabama and Florida many times with Keith during their retirement. In 2021, they relocated to John Knox in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 28 at 10:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri prior to a funeral mass at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will follow mass at the church.

All friends, family and sorority sisters will miss Sandy immensely. She was a wonderful lady. Blessings.
Sandra and I met at Central High School where we both were in the Aristonian Literary Society and have enjoyed being in touch throughout the years even though I live in Texas. I’m saddened to learn of her severely debilitating illness. My condolences, along with my thoughts and prayers are for her family for whom she was so proud. It is my profound hope they know what a loving person and great friend Sandra was and surely will be earthly missed but heavenly welcomed.
Sandra was a dear friend and client of mine Who I got to spend time with every two weeks for 28 years.
We said stories, she shared school stories and traveling stories to the beach with her sister
So many stories about her grandchildren and her wonderful girls
I am proud and honored to have been her friend, and I will truly miss her the bottom of my heart
Keith and I went from Kdtg all through school and later. He and Sandra were an amazing couple always busy with family and friends . They both shared joy with whoever they were with. So sad to loose both of them so close together. I know God knew they were “ONE” ! Will miss them. Prayers for the family
Sandra was a high school classmate and a college sorority sister. She was a person who I always enjoyed being with. She handled this very tough illness with great dignity. I am so proud to have known her. Carol Mccoy
