Mrs. Powell (I have always referred to her that way) was certainly a woman with such a patient and sweet disposition. She put up with me being in their home nearly every weekend of mine & Karen’s high school years. I got to see her as a loving wife, mother & grandmother. If ever there would be a lady I could think of as mom like to me or a second mom it would be her. I remember her love for flowers & plants, for reading and her sense of humor. She was a jewel among women. I will remember her fondly and am so sorry she is gone. My heartfelt condolences to Linda, John, Karen & Kathy, and all of the grandkids. And a final side note, her & I share the same middle name.

What a sweet and thoughtful lady Mrs. Powell was. She was a second mom to me through my high school years. I have many fond memories hanging out with Kathy and enjoying some of Mrs. Powell’s homemade cookies. I can still see her smile and hear her laugh. Rest easy, Mrs. Powell. Your legacy lives on. My sincerest condolences to Kathy, Karen, John, Linda, and all of her beloved grandkids and great grandkids. ❤️

Grandma Shirley was one of the most phenomenal people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. To say I got to spend the amount of time that I did with her is rare and I am very lucky. I used to go to her house pretty much every other weekend for years growing up. I remember her warm, homemade chocolate pudding with whip cream on top. I remember her making me oatmeal every morning when I woke up there, we would sit there and eat oatmeal and she would drink her gross black coffee in her little white flower cup. We would watch the news and then she would eventually turn it to Disney channel for me. When I would sneak into her bathroom and play with her little container of makeup. I remember how she would heat up a chocolate bar in the microwave and eat it with a butter knife. Or when I would beg her to let me pick a pretty flower out of her amazingly huge, beautiful garden and she’d take me out there with the kitchen scissors to get me one. When she would take me on rides with her to the library and let me pick out a book. When she would call me to come over and help her rake leaves multiple times a year. When she was living with nana(Karen) I would go over there and we would watch tv all of the time. I’d go over and cook for her or bring her sweets for us all to share. Or boxes of chocolates that she loved so much, we all know about them Hersheys pot of gold! She was always asking me about work and school. She was one of the most influential and supportive people in my entire life. I strive to be even half of the woman she was one day. She was overall one of the best people somebody could meet. She was awesome. I’ll always love, cherish, and appreciate grandma Shirley for everything she taught me and everything she was. I am going to miss her like crazy! What an honor it is to say she was my grandma.

To Shirley’s family,
Our deepest sympathy at the loss of Shirley.
She was a kind and loving person. She was, I’m sure, grateful for her dear family. Especially, the care given her by Karen, Brad, and others in her later years.
May she rest in the peace and love of God.

Grandma Shirley was one of the best grandmas I could ask for. She was always there for you no matter what, if you needed a dollar, food, clothes or anything she would have it and would be glad to give it up. You could always know grandma is home if you heard the infamous “close the door!” Or the smell of coffee and toast. Grandma Shirley was and still is the best grandma a grandson could ask for. I am so glad that I got to help and spend time with her, to her making me food when I was young to me making her food and breakfast and tea with lemon every minute was great and well spent with her…

Shirley and her husband were best friends with my mother and father. She was always kind and one who helped raise me. A kind soul . Rick McCullough
