Obituary
Stephen “Steve” James Wagner, Sr., 60, passed away on December 19, 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 28, 1964 in Dubuque, Iowa, Steve was the son of Sandra Lou (Pittenger) Wagner and Gerald Thomas Wagner.
On September 24, 1986, Steve married the love of his life, Susan Hagy. Together they built a beautiful life and raised five wonderful children.
Steve had a deep love for the outdoors. Whether casting a line at the lake or waiting optimistically in a tree stand during deer season, nature was his sanctuary. These moments were even more meaningful when shared with family and friends, creating memories that will last forever.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald Wagner. He is survived by his wife, Susan Wagner; his children, Julie (Donald) Rowden, Jere Hagy, Jenifer (Josh) Brockman, Stephen “Stevey” (Lizzie) Wagner, Jr. and Trevor (Ashley) Wagner; his brother, Michael (Barb) Wagner; his sister, Laurie (Paul) Doty; and his 12 beloved grandchildren.
Steve will be remembered for his generous spirit, his quick wit, and his willingness to lend a helping hand. He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. His humor and kindness touched countless lives, and his absence will be deeply felt.
Steve’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and loyalty. He taught those around him the value of hard work, the joy of simple pleasures, and the importance of showing up for others. His life was a testament to the power of family and friendship, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held for Steve at a lake in Illinois in late spring 2026. If you would like to attend and receive updates please send an email to stevewagnermemorial2026@gmail.com with your name and address.
Steve was one of the funniest & caring people I ever knew. It was always fun to have him be around. I appreciated how he made sure Jonathon was doing ok after John died. Cancer is indeed an equal opportunity offender. Many hugs to all of you!! I will see you at the memorial. Love to you all.
I am saddened of the news that my friend Steve has gone on to glory, but rejoice in the fact of knowing that he is in no more pain, suffering or sorrow. He is with the Lord. “Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No seem to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come” Isaiah 57:1 I am sorry for your loss. I pray that God will comfort Susan and her family and find peace. This is not our home, we are all just passing through until we all get to Heaven and meet on God’s golden shores. This is not good bye. This is a transition from one life to another, until we meet again, rest in peace.
