Obituary

Stephen Louis Raymond, known to most as Steve, passed away on June 9, 2024, in Lee’s Summit, Missouri surrounded by his loving family.

Born September 25, 1952, in Slater, Missouri, Steve had a diverse career journey after graduation from Lee’s Summit High School in 1970.  Throughout his life he explored various fields including retail stocker, oilman, and construction worker in his brother Doug’s company DAR Construction. For many years he worked with his dad, Don, at the family business, Earth Science Education Supply, creating geology kits for generations of students.
Steve, enjoyed the many trips for rock and mineral procurement and sales traveling all over the United States with his dad, brothers, sons and eventually grandkids. He always had a rock or fossil and enjoyed telling stories about each one to the kids and grandkids.

When Steve closed Earth Science, he joined the Walmart loss prevention team. While Steve enjoyed working at home for years, he found a true work family in the Lee’s Summit Walmart crew.  His coworkers and customers will deeply miss his warm smiles, genuine care, and kindness, always brightening their days and remembering the details of their lives.

Those who had the privilege to know him will remember how much he loved his family, the Kansas City Chiefs, and classic rock ‘n’ roll.

Steve will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of nearly 37 years, Susan (Place) Raymond, sons Stephen “Kyle” (Charla) Raymond and Matthew (Andrea) Raymond, his stepdaughters Angie Ranck and Amber Easton, and his 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren who knew him as “Papa”.  Steve is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Sandra (Lawrence) Erdile, Doug (Diana) Raymond, Jonathan (Elaine) Raymond and David (Cheryl) Raymond, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Jacqueline Raymond.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 2pm-3pm at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, Missouri.  All who knew and loved Steve are welcome to join in honoring his memory.

Steve was a wonderful friend to geology and is missed. I loved stopping by the Earth Science shop to pick up supplies for my students, look through a few of the mineral samples, and to chat with Steve. On the few occasions I had my young children with me, Steve and Mr. Raymond picked out a couple nice pyrite samples for them; what a treat! I have missed talking with Steve since he closed ESE.

A beautiful tribute to Steve. Learned so much I did not know. Brought tears to my eyes reading about how he was loved and loved his co-workers. So true. He was adored by customers. I mourn for his family. But I thank you for sharing him with us. If u have no objections I would like to print a few copies of his obituary to share with co-workers and customers.

To Kyle and Charla, I’m so sorry for your loss and I’m wishing you comfort and peace during this difficult time. Although your loved one is not here anymore, he will be with you always. Hold on to the precious memories that will forever be in your heart. I will continue to pray for the family. Love you both! Janette

always looked like they were up to something. Brought a smile to my face instantly. He talked very proudly of his family. Hoping each new tomorrow will bring you peace. I know he is looking
