Thomas “Tom” D. Lowery

February 28, 1949 - July 12, 2026

Obituary

Thomas “Tom” D. Lowery peacefully passed away on the evening of July 12, 2026 at the age of 77.

He was born in 1949 in Providence, Rhode Island to Charles D. Lowery, Jr. and Irene M. Lowery. At the age of 2, his family relocated to Coventry, Connecticut living in the house his father built and spending all of his childhood and youth happily down at the lake. Coventry will always be his hometown.

Tom graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University and began working with persons with developmental disabilities. This became his career and lifelong desire to help others, for more than 40 years. This carried over into his personal life as well. All of the consumers and his coworkers became part of his family.

Tom had many interests. Traveling, sports, wildlife and the environment, to name a few. But above all, he was passionate about the author J.R.R. Tolkien and all of his works.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Krista Lowery, his beloved son Justan Lowery (Jessica), his granddaughter Aurora, his sister-in-law Dr. Jean O’Brien Lowery and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Charles D. Lowery III, LCDR (Ret.).

Tom was very imaginative, intelligent, thoughtful, loyal and very generous to everyone. He loved his family unconditionally. Rest well.

“The greatest adventure is the one that lies ahead.” – J.R.R. Tolkien

A visitation will be held on September 11, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a service at 6:00 p.m. at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Dear Krista and my Plude family,
Tom was my Uncle like you are my Aunt.
My condolences and prayers 🙏 😢.
Tom always had a smile and kind words. He was truly a hand picked disciple of Christ!
I hope you all can find peace in this
difficult time.
I’m sorry I will not be there tomorrow. Just know I send you my hugs and kisses. May God bless you, the family and, Tom!

I’m very sorry to hear that Tom has passed on. We worked together 1979-1981 in Stafford Circle, mainly in Andover Cottage before it became a behavior unit. After I left MTS we lost touch, but I have many fond memories of Tom and Krista, who was our nurse in the Circle at the time. My sincere condolences to his family. I will always remember your wedding, Krista.
