Obituary
March 10, 1977 -June 8, 2025
Travis Gary Cox, a true treasure from Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, June 8. He left an indelible mark on everyone he met with his infectious hugs, warm handshakes , and radiant smile. Born on March 10, 1977, in Kansas City, Missouri, Travis was raised by his loving parents, Gary Cox and Mary Edmondson. He cherished his parents deeply.
After graduating from preschool with a cap and gown, Travis embarked on his academic journey at Lakeview Woods State School. During his time there, prom was a cherished event for him; he loved dancing and expressing himself through music. He turned 21 while there and had a memorable surprise birthday party with the Chiefs mascot as a special guest.
After graduating from Lakeview Woods, Travis moved to Olathe and began a new chapter in his life with his dad, Gary, and his bonus mom, Marti. He found a supportive community at Lakemary Center, where he made lifelong friends and embraced the daily routine and special outings. Picnics, cookouts, and outings to baseball games were among his favorite activities.
Travis’s heart truly belonged to his dad; they shared countless adventures together. Fishing, hunting, motorcycle rides, “wolf bike” riding, and simply relaxing while listening to country music were their favorite pastimes. Chiefs and Royals games were always a source of excitement and joy for them. Travis’s passion for movies, concerts, and Royals games extended to his time with his mom, Mary, and bonus dad, Rick. They created cherished memories together, and Travis loved every moment they spent as a family.
During his summer school stint at the DLC in Olathe, Travis participated in Special Olympics swimming and proudly brought home the medals he won. Swimming and bowling became his favorite sports, with bowling being his particular passion. He continued to bowl with Special Olympics in Lees Summit for years, bonding with his schoolmates. Every other Friday night, Travis enjoyed bowling with his Lakemary and Olathe pals. He celebrated many birthdays at the bowling alley. Even after the COVID pandemic, Travis’s love for bowling remained undiminished. He found immense joy in bowling with an audience, often doing a little dance before throwing down the lane and giving a big hooray when he achieved a strike or spare.
Holidays with family in Salina were always special. Travis was loved by everyone. He delighted in surprising everyone with a handshake, hug, or a friendly “hi Bobby, hi Kim, hi Lori, hi John.” He had a knack for remembering everyone’s name and never forgot. He even had nicknames for his bonus aunts and grandma. His buddy, ol Steve, was always there to take him on long rides on the ATV and shower him with his love.
Travis was a joy; he brought a smile to everyone he met. We couldn’t imagine a better son, and we will miss him every day. Travis’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Travis is survived by his father, Gary E. Cox, and his spouse, Marti Cox (McCall). His mother , Mary Edmondson (Hammond), and her spouse, Rick Edmondson. His brother, John Cox, and niece, Jade Cox. His uncle, Daryl Cox, and his spouse, Cecelia. Great aunt, Karen Hammond. Travis was surrounded by a huge community of friends and family.

Im so sorry to hear of Travis’s passing. We loved seeing him at Mission Bowl and he will be missed.
You were the best “lil buddy” and cousin a guy could ever hope for Trav. I love you, we lost an angel but heaven gained one!
