Obituary

Viola Alma Vogel, 91 of John Knox Village in Lees Summit, Mo, passed away peacefully on Jan 2, 2021.

Viola was born on March 9, 1929 in Kansas City, Ks to John and Frieda (Anders) Houtman. Viola married the Rev Luther Vogel on November 29,1981. Viola was employed a total of 48 years with: John Deere, International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Arthur Andersen, and retired from Pfizer in 1994. During retirement, together with her husband, they organized and led tours to the Holy Land, Jordan, Turkey, Greece and Germany. Prior to retirement Viola was active in many church activities: choir, Sunday school teacher, LWML, altar guild, and secretarial duties. Viola liked traveling, reading, bowling, swimming, music, movies and was a big fan of the Royals.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rev Luther Vogel, siblings Louis, Alvin, Kenneth, Orville, Maurice, Alsine, Lucy and stepson Pastor Jonathan Vogel (Susan Vogel Longmire). Viola is survived by stepchildren Paul (Martha) Vogel Overland Park Ks, Jim Vogel Billings Mt, Ruth (Pastor Mark Gerken) Adel Ia, and nieces and nephews and 12 Step Grandchildren, 16 step Great Grandchildren.

Viola was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Ks. She is currently a member at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lees Summit, Mo. There are no funeral services planned at this time.  Memorials can be given to St. Matthews Lutheran Church or Harvesters.
