Obituary

Virginia Ammie Turner, 91, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026.

Virginia was born on May 15, 1935, in Overland Park, Kansas, to Edna Frances Thursby and Luther Everette Thursby. She graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1953 and devoted her life to her family, her work, and her community.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Wallace Turner, her son David w Turner, her daughter Janice Ammie Vassholzs Turner, her grandson Kevin Scott Moore, and her siblings, Neil Thursby, Deloris Shirley, Marian Rodman, and Melvin Thursby.

Virginia is survived by granddaughter Ammie and husband Jacob Swearingen, eight great-grandchildren Jamie, Kirsten, Ryker, Landon, John, Nora, Jared, and Jordan, many nieces and nephews along with many cherished relatives and friends who will miss her deeply.

She shared many happy years with her beloved husband, George Wallace Turner, until his passing in 2019. Virginia retired after working for Southwestern Bell, Kmart, and Unity. One of her proudest accomplishments was achieving perfect attendance during her years at Southwestern Bell—even though she never had a driver’s license.

Virginia found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved playing cards, competitive bowling, tending to her flowers, crocheting, and, above all, spending time with those she loved. She will be remembered for her warm smile, contagious laughter, kindness, generosity, humility, and the unwavering love she had for her family. Her gentle spirit and caring heart touched everyone who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. A graveside service will immediately follow at Green Lawn Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.

Virginia’s legacy of love, kindness, laughter, and devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
