Betty Lou (Shull) Hertzog, 89, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away October 14, 2019. She was born July 14, 1930 to Forrest Allen Shull and Goldie Ferrol Shull in Marshall, MO. Betty met Robert Earl (Bud) Hertzog at The First Baptist Church in 1943. She graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1948. Betty and Bud were married at the same church in 1952. She and Bud had five children: Bob (Diantha), Greenwood, MO; Doug (Debi), Holden, MO; David (Kristie), Pleasant Hill, MO; Julie (Mark), Greenwood, MO; and Joe (Chris), Holden, MO. Betty enjoyed surrounding herself with her large loving family, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas. They would all gather in the family home east of Lee’s Summit. Betty enjoyed cooking and sewing. She logged many miles, taking kids to football, baseball, wrestling, dance and 4-H events. She was a devoted wife of 67 years. Bud and Betty were a constant at school events, Mizzou functions, and Republican meetings statewide. They attended Veterinary conventions for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Janice Anne Neill. She is survived by her husband; 5 kids, and their spouses; ten grandkids; eleven great grandkids; and her niece Carol Anne Neill.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 17th from 5-8pm at the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit. Funeral services will be Friday October 18th at 10am, also at the Church. Burial will be at Lee’s Summit Cemetery immediately following the service. Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Missions Fund. The family would also like to say a special thank you to all the doctors and nurses at Centerpoint Medical Center who took such good care of her.

We were so sorry to hear the news of Betty’s passing. She was such a sweet Godly woman that always had a smile on her face and a kind word to say. We remember all the years she taught children in Sunday School and all those lives she touched. She is with her Lord now but she’ll be greatly missed by those she leaves behind.

Betty will be greatly missed by me . I saw her every week for over 20 years . Her hair was very important to her, ruled how she felt!
She use to tell me I would need to use my magic wand many weeks , due to the weather.
She loved her family so much, so proud of all her children , grandchildren and great grandchildren. I know she is in Heaven and watching over all of us. Prayers to her family for comfort and peace

Doc we are so sad to hear this. Betty was a sweet lady. Always had a smile and was kind to everyone. Prayers for peace and comfort for you and your beautiful family.

Bud and family, There could never be enough words to describe what a wonderful, precious person Betty is, but all of you already know that. Her warmth and love of Christ just flowed from her beautiful smile and spirit. She was one of my first friends at FBCLS and I will forever miss her saying “ Hi, Shirley!” to me as it was our private joke. We are so saddened by her leaving us but we have not ‘lost’ her, we know EXACTLY where she is and heaven is rejoicing by gaining this beautiful, Godly woman. Our verses in our Bible study group today, ( the one she has been with for years) were perfect as we remembered our sweet friend, Betty. Love and comfort to all her family, she loved you all so much. ??

My heart goes out to the family as you grieve the loss of this wonderful woman. Betty taught me to bake perfect chocolate chip cookies and put up with a lot of teasing from those rowdy boys, including Bud, back in the day. She will continue to be an inspiration as you exchange wonderful memories as time goes by. Much love.

My heart is breaking for you all. Betty was such a joy to be around—a reflection of Jesus, full of love and light and her own sparkle. So many were blessed by her life. Thank you, Lord, for such a beautiful servant. So sorry, we will not be home to celebrate her life at her memorial service but know you’re in our prayers. Love, Leila and Steve Effertz

I was on the state 4-H foundation board w/ Bud for 14 yrs and always enjoyed visiting with Betty when she came to meetings w/ him. I have seen & visited w/ both of them for over forty years at veterinary meetings. She was truly a gem and she contributed so much to her family to make them who the are.
She will be missed by all.

I will miss seeing Betty at our historical meetings and get pleasant smile. Always loved talking to her. Sorry for your loss

Our condolences to Kristie and David’s family. We are so sorry. May God Bless and comfort all of you.

We were so sad to hear of your loss – Betty was such an asset to our profession and a welcoming presence at all those “veterinary conventions”. Our thoughts and love go to you and your family.

Joe, we are so very sorry for your families loss. Praying for you all,

Shawn and Amy

Bud and family, it was a great pleasure to meet Betty and get to care for her. Im saddened to hear about her passing. You guys will be in my thoughts and prayers!

Bud and Family

This note comes to you from Ames, Iowa, with the deepest sympathy regarding the loss of Betty. Distance will preclude our presence at the services, however, we will be there in spirt. Betty’s active support and mentorship, especially with Veterinary Medical Associations, will be acutely missed but she left a wonderful model to emulate.

Bill and Susan Fales
