Obituary

David Alan Hurt, 51, of Lake Winnebago, MO peacefully passed away on July 4, 2021 surrounded by loved ones, after a lengthy battle with Glioblastoma.

David Hurt was born on December 6, 1969 to George and Mary Ann Hurt in Hannibal, MO. After David graduated from Hannibal Senior High School in 1988, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at The University of Missouri Columbia. After graduation from MU, he worked in engineering for 28 years with Missouri Department of Transportation and Burns & McDonnell Engineering. David was passionate about transportation infrastructure in the state of Missouri and loved what he did.

In 1988, David met Stacy Kuhlman, the love of his life, and future wife. David and Stacy were married on November 18, 1995 and have two sons, Cameron and Drew. David loved his boys like no other and they were his top priority in everything he did. He was their little league coach, Scout leader, and biggest cheerleader. He was so proud of the young men they are becoming.

In addition to his family, David was a fiercely loyal friend and had an amazing network of friends that were considered family. David was a lifelong Mizzou fan. In his spare time David enjoyed sporting events, vacations, concerts, boating, fishing and golfing with friends and family.

David was preceded in death by his father, George Hurt and his mother-in-law, Linda Kuhlman. He is survived by his wife, Stacy, their two sons, Cameron and Drew, his mother, Mary Ann Hurt, his brothers Dana (Donna) Hurt, Doug (Jodie) Hurt, his sister Denise (Trevor) Bulgin, Stacy’s brother, Scott (Jeanne) Kuhlman, her sister Shelly (Matt) Neuweg, numerous nieces, nephews extended family and friends.

Words fail to express my sorrow for your family’s loss. Please know many, many prayers of peace and comfort will be lifted up for all of you! Much love!

Our hearts are hurting for you. We are so sorry for this tremendous loss.

We are so sorry for your loss. You have been and will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

When I babysat/nannied the boys for many summers, David was always very kind to me. He always asked me about my life and was truly a generous soul. I will never forget him. My deepest sympathies and prayers go out to Stacy, Drew, and Cameron. I love this family and cherish the memories during my teenage years that I had with them.

Dear Stacy and the boys,

IWe are so sorry for your loss! Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! May all the fun times and memories bring you peace.

Sincerely,
Doug, Marcia, Ashton, Noelle and Hayden Hall

Dave was a great friend and fellow employee-owner at Burns & Mac. His passion and expertise made a great impact on every project he worked on across the state and country. He was a great mentor and example to so many young engineers.

Our prayers are with the Hurt family and friends.

My condolences to the Hurt family. I worked with Dave in the early years at Burns & Mac. Dave was a great contributor to our Transportation Practice, and he helped us grow the group to become a successful stand-alone practice within the company. He will be missed, but his contributions to the company and to those he mentored will live on.

Stacy – I know words can’t take away the pain you’re feeling, but I want you to know I’m praying for you and your family. Sending you love and strength in this time of loss.

I will always remember David for exactly how I knew him – a kind-hearted soul who never said an unkind word about anyone. He always had a smile on his face. He will never be forgotten, and we are all better for having known him.

The Hurt and Kuhlman families continue to be heavy on my mind.

Dave was a great role model as a father, engineer, and friend. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
Josh, Sheila, Mason, Lily, Adalyn

We are heartbroken for you all. Dave was such a genuinely kind man. We are lifting you all up in prayers. Sending many hugs…..

Dear Mary Ann and family,

I am sorry that I will not be able to go to the funeral. I broke my arm and have been having some health problems.

My family and I share in your sadness and we wish you peace and comfort. May all of you be renewed in spirit and feel God’s caring touch.

May the Lord gently hold you and lead you through this time of grief.

With sympathy,
Sarah Hoskins and family

Dave will truly be missed as a coworker and friend. I always enjoyed working with Dave and visiting about our kids. He will be greatly missed but his hard work and love for his family will live on. Sending tons of hugs and prayers to his entire family. May all the happy memories give you comfort.

I’ve know Dave as a fellow Boy Scout, civil engineer, and father. He was always a kind and caring friend; proud dad, husband, son, and brother; and conscientious and passionate Professional Engineer. Our thoughts and prayers are with Stacy, Cameron, Drew, and all of the Hurt and Kuhlman families.

Stacy and I worked together for several years. I actually worked with her through both her pregnancies. The first time I met, David, Stacy introduced him as her husband without a name. From that day forward, I would refer to him as, Mr. Stacy’s husband which always got a chuckle out of he and Stacy. RIH David. Stacy, Drew & Cameron you are in my prayers.

My deepest condolences for your loss. Words cannot express my sadness. David will always be remembered as a great husband and father. He will be missed by all.
Scott Dattel
