Obituary
Elizabeth Rose James Waite, age 93, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away peacefully June 25th, 2018.
Betty was born April 22, 1925, in McCracken, Kansas, the youngest of five children. After her father passed away in December, 1925, the family moved to Chillicothe, Missouri. Betty graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1943. She received her degree from Chillicothe Business College in 1945. Before she married, Betty worked various secretarial positions for Texico Pipeline Company, TWA, and the Department of Labor.
Betty married William L. Waite, of Kansas City, in 1959. She helped manage the office for Bill’s construction business. Betty and Bill enjoyed 53 years of marriage, before his death in 2012.
Betty was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She and Bill enjoyed fishing trips in the mid-west and Canada, summer vacations at the lake, and many sightseeing vacations out west. Betty enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, reading mystery novels, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and watching just about any sport on TV. She cared deeply for her family and loved to spoil her grandchildren. She had a kind and gentle spirit, and a great wit.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents Alfred and Esther James; sisters Margaret Oliver, Mary James, Thelma James; brother Isaac James. She leaves behind three daughters, Sandie (Jon) Lloyd of Roeland Park, KS, Jennifer Waite of Osawatomie, KS, and Judy (Ron) Vroom of Lee’s Summit, MO, stepchildren David (Leslie) Waite of Otwell, IN, and Susan Sommer of Longview, WA; a nephew J.T. (Juanita) Oliver of Ooltewah, TN; a niece, Susan Stegman of Tulsa, OK; and grandchildren Katie, Ian and Mary. The family would like to thank St. Luke’s Hospice and her many Lee Haven friends who sent cards and special wishes.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 29th at 2:00 p.m., at Langsford Funeral Home; 115 SW 3rd Street in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, with visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road.

To all of my Family members who were there and to Lay to Rest our Betty. She was my Mom since the age of five and did the very best to make me feel like family. Mary Leslie Waite and I were unable to be there even though plans were being made to do so. Our prayers are with my sisters and their families for the loss of a strong and bold woman who loved us all.
