Obituary
Jean Marie Mershon, 83, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully on September 15, 2023.
Jean was a devoted wife and mother, and a proud grandparent and great grandparent. She was born on September 7, 1940, in Blue Springs, Missouri to Eugene B. and Clarice Marie Colson. Jean graduated from Blue Springs High School and earned a degree in Home Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She worked many years for the Internal Revenue Service and retired as an IRS Tax Auditor.
Jean was an active mother, supporting her sons’ school and athletic activities. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino to play the slots. She was an excellent seamstress, making many Halloween costumes for her children and grandchild.
Jean was a sports fan and loved to follow her sons’ basketball and baseball games through the years, including acting as official scorekeeper for youth baseball games. She continued this tradition by following and attending her granddaughter Hayley’s soccer and volleyball matches. She loved rooting for the KC Chiefs, and in her later years, rarely missed a Mizzou football or basketball game on TV or radio.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband Alvin (Sonny), and her parents. She is survived by sons, Mark Mershon and wife Pam, and Doug Mershon; granddaughter Hayley Yeagley and her husband Kyle, and great granddaughter Olivia; brother John Colson; sister Connie Cowley; and five nephews.

We are very sorry to hear of Aunt Jean Marie’s passing. She was always a wonderful aunt to me, unfailingly kind and supportive. I will cherish her memory and am glad she is past her pain and suffering. 2 Corinthians 5: 6-8 “So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord”. We won’t be able to make the memorial, but our thoughts and prayers will be for you.
Connie, I’m so sorry for the loss of your sister. You will be in my thoughts and prayers ❤️
