Obituary

Joy Wayne Webb, 83, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 10.

Joy was born in Rudd, Arkansas on April 30, 1939, the second child of lshmal and Anna Webb. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Kathleen Rice, and his daughter, Melanie Brach. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Veldonna, son Greg Webb (Debbie), son-in-law, Joel Brach, 8 grandchildren, Sean Webb, Matthew Webb (Lakyn), Rachel Brach, Joanna Brach, Suzanne Brach, Jonathan Brach, Daniel Brach and Paul Brach, 2 great-grandchildren, Brooks and Parker Joy Webb, brothers Carroll Webb (Pat) and Dwain Webb (Etta), and sister Betty Morgan.

Joy graduated from School of the Ozarks in 1957, where he was on the basketball team and would meet his future wife. After graduating, he married Veldonna and worked as a paint store manager for over 20 years before becoming a salesman for wallcovering and drapery fabrics, where he was named Salesman of the Year on several occasions. His love of basketball led to him participating in church league basketball and sponsoring an amateur basketball team that took on the Harlem Globetrotters. Later, he could be found in the stands at his grandson’s games, decked out in support of the Wamego (KS) Red Raiders. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit, where he served as an usher and helped serve Christmas dinner to those celebrating the holiday alone.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 16, 2022 with a visitation starting at 10:00 AM at the Lee’s Summit First Baptist Church. He will be buried alongside family in the Ava Cemetery at Ava, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Lee’s Summit, MO or to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
