Obituary
Lena Mae Estes, 94, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2019 in Lee’s Summit. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at the Lee’s Summit Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit or the Lutheran High School of Kansas City.
Lena was born on January 31, 1925 in Cole Camp, Missouri to Otto L. and Leora (Forrest) Viets. In 1931, Lena’s family moved to Springfield, Missouri. After graduating from Springfield Senior High School in 1942, her family moved to Lee’s Summit. She began working at Pratt & Whitney in the accounting department. In 1946, she married Percy Laverne Estes. She later worked in real estate sales for 18 years, retiring from Coldwell Banker in 1990. Lena was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and enjoyed being an active member of Lydia LWML and also a member of Lutheran High School Auxiliary, serving both for several years as secretary.
Lena was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years; and three brothers, Hillard, Robert, and Otto Viets, Jr.
She is survived by one brother, Earl Viets of Springfield, MO; sister, Betty Smith of Lee’s Summit, MO; and 18 nieces and nephews.
So sorry for your loss. Worked with Lena when she worked for Western Electric. She was such a lovely lady and a pleasure to know.
