Obituary

Oune Somsanith, 45, of Lee’s Summit, MO was called to heaven on July 8, 2018. He was shot and killed by an unknown person while making a “Let Go” Iphone exchange.

Visitation will be at Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW 3rd, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063, on Saturday, July 14th from 2-5pm. Memorial contributions made to the Somsanith Family will be used for the children’s’ college tuition or to a gofundme page at https://www.gofundme.com/oune-somsanith-family

Survivors include his Mother, Ouey; Father, Sorn; Brother, Nokeo; wife, (High School sweetheart) Kelly; and their 5 children: June, Cayenne, TJ, Emily and Emma. Extended family members include his Mother in-law, Bernie; Sister in-law, Cindy; Brother in-law, Tim; and Nephew, Noah.

Oune was born in Laos in 1972 and came to the US as a Vietnam War refugee when he was 5. He became a naturalized US citizen in 1994. Oune grew up in Ames, IA and lived there until he moved to Lee’s Summit, MO, in 1997. Oune worked at Pfizer until the Lees Summit plant closed. He was a stay-at-home Dad for several years. Most recently, he was employed part-time at Lees Summit West High School. Oune had a laid back disposition, it was hard to get him to hurry or take anything too seriously. Oune’s favorite things included hanging out at home with family or close friends, playing cards, and pranking people. He was a great cook; his family may now starve. He was a body builder who always made time for the gym. Oune’s associate degree was in auto-body; he loved cars. He will be deeply missed and left a legacy of love and laughter.

Kelly I have always thought of you as a delightful person with pretty much the best smile in the whole world, and the thought of you and your family bearing these circumstances literally makes me feel sick. God says He is close to the broken hearted and the crushed in spirit, and I have found that to be true this year in the loss of my dad, which was quickly followed by the loss of my uncle. I pray that you and your family feel that closeness and comfort even in the midst of great pain. I am so very sorry for this horrible tragedy.

On a Friday night many many years ago, Oune convinced me to hit on drag queens. He knew they were drag queens. I found out later. That always brings a smile to my embarrassed face. When bad things happen to good people i want to tear the world apart. I’m so sorry and my heart goes out to your family. May our love for Oune shine brighter than the rage for his loss.

We are shocked and saddened by this tragedy. Our boys, Elijah and Sam played soccer with TJ and we always could find Oune outlying by the trees overlooking the field. He was a guiet spirit, May peace be with you Kelly and the family.
