Peggy June Hess

Obituary

Peggy June Keller Hess, a 64-year resident of Grandview, MO, passed away on Monday, March 4th, 2024, in Leawood, KS.  She was born June 3, 1937, in Fort Scott, KS to parents Icie Vaughn and Emmons Elton McKinley Keller who resided in Richards, MO.  Peggy was the 12th of 14 children.

The Keller family moved to Oregon in 1939, until they moved again to Adrian, MO in 1949.  Peggy graduated from Adrian High School in 1955 and on August 12th, 1956, she married Ronald E. Hess in Adrian, MO.  They were the first couple married by the new minister, Rev. Stanley (Bob) P. Barnes at the Christian Church.

She was baptized in the Methodist Church in Grandview, MO and is currently a member of Red Bridge Methodist Church, Kansas City, MO.

Peggy’s career journey started at Phillips Drug Store in Adrian, MO, Sears in Kansas City, and Montgomery Wards in Denver. After her children were born, she worked 26 years for Grandview Schools in Grandview, MO and then for 4 more years in North Kansas City Schools, retiring June 30, 1997, as a computer technician.

Peggy was the only child in her family to attend college and graduated at the age of 41 from Longview Community College.  Her interest were computers, photography, and writing.  She was a Lions Club member serving twice as president and editing the District Newspaper.

Her precious blessings in life have been her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Her greatest sorrow was the death of her two grandchildren, Crystin Nicole Hess (1997), and SSG. Jacob Alan Hess (2019).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald E. Hess, her parents Icie and Emmons Keller , her in-laws Ruth and Earlie Hess, and her Grandchildren Jacob and Crystin. Also preceding her in death are her brothers and sisters, Elvis Keller,  Pearl Bolman, Gail Morrow,  Opal Lee,  Elton Keller,  Clara Bolman, Bettie Jo Tucker, Kelly Keller, Kenneth Keller, and Gladys Roberts.

She is survived by her children Russell L. Hess and his wife Michele,  Ross A. Hess and his wife Carol, Ronda Hess Ayres (Russell).  She also leaves grandsons, Brad Hess his wife Emily, (Mckenna & Maci); Jacob’s wife Jessica Hess (Crystin, Zoey, Everest, and Elizabeth & Caroline); Wayland Hess his wife Dr. Amanda Hess (Ella, Rylie, and Wyatt); Tyler Ayres his wife Shelby (Jayce); Taylor Ayres; Ashley M. Ford her husband Desmond; Haley Jo Chavez her husband Luis (Ryker, Leighton, & Ezekiel).  Her surviving siblings are, Merlin Keller(Linda), Marvin Keller(Velma), and Nadyne Kimble.  Being an aunt when she was born, she leaves several generations of over 2 hundred nieces, nephews and four cousins.

Funeral Services will be held in the Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW 3rd Street, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063 (816) 524-3700 on Saturday, March 9, 2024, visitation begins at 10am, and funeral service at 11am, followed by a short graveside service at Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, MO.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Hospital, in memory of Peggy Hess, is preferred.

To the Hess family, John and I are so very sorry for your loss. Peggy was a very kind and loving woman.

Russ and Michele, Mike and I are so very sorry for your loss and pray for love, peace and healing for you and your family. Thoughts and prayers always.

She was a fun loving, caring person. I will miss our phone calls.

So sorry for your loss. Aunt Peggy touched many lives in her special way. She kept in touch with me over the years and we spoke often about our family’s. I miss her. (I’m Elton Keller’s oldest daughter. )
