Roy Eugene Lighthizer

November 25, 1924 - February 9, 2020

Obituary

Roy Eugene ‘Gene’ Lighthizer, 95, of Raytown, MO returned to his heavenly home on February 10, 2020, marking the day he reunited with the love of his life, Beulah Lighthizer, who passed December 25th, 2007.

Gene was born on November 25, 1924 to Leroy and Dorothy Lighthizer in Kansas City, MO. A WWII Veteran, Gene served in the US Army Air Corps from 1943-1946 and quickly earned the rank of Sergeant. During his service he received the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Ribbon.

After being honorably discharged, Gene worked as a junior accountant at a manufacturing company. Successful in his career but seeking a job that was outdoors and hands-on, Gene made the switch to a career in bricklaying, making him the 6th generation of bricklayers in the Lighthizer family.

Gene is survived by his brother Robert (Grace Lighthizer), his two children; Mark (Diana Lighthizer) and Carol (Howard Fritz) as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Brooking Cemetery in Raytown, Missouri.

“We may die with disappointments and unanswered prayers, but the glory of Christ and the blessings of heaven will more than make up for all our disappointments.”
